Privacy Policy — HabitStead

Last updated: July 24, 2026

This policy describes how HabitStead ("the app," "we," "us") handles information. We've kept the app simple on purpose, and this policy reflects that: there isn't much to disclose, because the app doesn't do very much with your data beyond storing it on your own device.

The short version

HabitStead does not have user accounts, does not use analytics or tracking, does not show ads, and does not send your habit data to any server we control. Everything you enter — habit names, categories, completion history, notes — stays on your device, in storage that only HabitStead can access.

What data the app stores, and where

The habits you create, when you mark them done, any notes you add, and your app preferences (theme, language, color palette) are stored locally on your device using Android's standard app storage. This data:

Cloud backup

HabitStead uses Android's built-in Auto Backup feature. If enabled on your device (this is a device-level Android setting, not something HabitStead controls directly), your habit data is periodically backed up to your own Google Drive account, the same way many Android apps' data is backed up. This backup is managed entirely by Google's Android platform under your Google account — HabitStead does not operate the backup service, does not have access to your Google account, and cannot see the backed-up data. You can review or turn off this backup at any time in your device's Android settings.

Permissions the app requests, and why

None of these permissions give the app, or us, access to anything outside of scheduling and showing your own reminders.

Home screen widget

If you add the HabitStead widget to your home screen, it reads the same locally-stored habit data described above to display it and lets you mark habits done directly from your home screen. This data exchange happens entirely on your device, between the app and the widget — nothing is sent externally.

Children's privacy

HabitStead is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, since it doesn't collect information at all in the sense of transmitting it anywhere.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes — for example, if a future version of the app adds a feature that does transmit data somewhere — we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above.
